Since my Fiance (or should that be FIANCE because oh my god, FIANCE!!!!) has fallen asleep on my floor, and I have some time to kill, I guess I should update everyone on life, as it has been since the "News".
First of all, I would like to say to Claire, Ben and Tim: poor poor effort. I serve you guys this perfect opportunity to at the very least, ridicule and mock me, and yet, nothing.....especially you Tim.....even Dave managed to get one up on you....dont let it happen again ok. Dave should never get anything up on anyone or anything. If the world is a fair and just place anyhow.
Anyhow, plans for the wedding are coming along well. Since we plan to have a lovely Western style one in Christchurch in a couple of years time, then we have decided to have a Japanese style ceremony. Also, because, according to Kaori (ie a Japanese person) it is "something different".....Most Japanese ceremonies seem to take place in tacky, tiny chapels, where they occasionally hire some scruffy foreigner from the street to preside over as the priest for a few dollars.....apparently lends credibility to the whole thing Ive heard......
The news went down reasonably well with her parents, who have already lost another daughter to the dreaded gaijin curse....the other one married an American. 2 out of 3 I would have to say is bad luck for her father......but he seems to be taking it well. As enligthened as Japan is (sic) I would have to say "losing" two children to foreigners would seem to be a little unusual here. That said, her mother on the other hand was praying for something to happen between us, but it wouldnt be the first time her parents saw something completely differently from each other. No one in her family can believe they are still married, but apparently thats normal here. I read an article the other day warning Japanese couples to not spend too much time together after the husband retires, because, they might realise that they dont actually like each other!! Apparently, because husbands in Japan often spend a lot of time at work or on business trips, then they other never have time to really get to know each other well in the first place, or, over time really drift apart. The age group with the highest rate of divorce here is couples over 60 years old.
Also, went to try on suits and a kimono for the wedding ceremony. Apparently no one in Japan has my chest size, or the length of my arms. So, there was only one tux, and one Kimono in the whole place that fits me. These people are small, small, small.
In other news my Japanese proficiency test was owned. By yours truly, that is. A swish 359 out of 400. This is good news, since my future, or the possibility of me being sane in it, may well depend on my japanese language ability. Basically, I have decided I would rather lick tyres for a living rather than teach English to people who neither have the motivation or a simple capacity to speak English. Harsh but true.
FIANCE!!
